Penn Medication Lancaster General Health has an immediate opening for a part-time phlebotomy Tech to support Lancaster Hospital Lab.
The Phlebotomy Tech will; carry out a wide variety of assistance functions for the Laboratory and Laboratory Service Areas. This position requires skills in some or all of the following practical areas: phlebotomy, point-of-care screening, specimen collection and preparation tasks. Maintains needed competency abilities in the required areas of competence required for the particular workspace.
- This position is part time, advantage eligible, totaling 20 hours weekly.
- 3rd shift, 11 PM-9: 30 AM Friday and Saturday nights. Holiday and rolling on-call.
This position lies in Lancaster, Pa.
VITAL FUNCTIONS: Qualified people must have the capability (with or without affordable accommodation) to perform the following responsibilities:
- Carries out venipuncture and capillary specimen collection in an ambulatory and hospital setting.
- Validates client identity, specimen stability and maintains working knowledge of specimen requirements and unique procedures.
- Documents all stages of specimen collection in needed computer system systems consisting of investigating orders, “getting” specimens, canceling tests, running collection lists and producing and using reconciliation reports.
- Offer mentorship and oversight for brand-new employees and medical interns.
- Organizes designated work and carries out appropriate tasks satisfying recognized efficiency standards in phlebotomy and point of care screening.
- Shows the Lancaster General Medical Facility Standards of Performance in dealing with clients, visitors, and colleagues.
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS: The following duties are considered secondary to the primary duties listed above:
- Keeps a working knowledge of devices needed to perform jobs. This consists of performing QC, upkeep and standard troubleshooting on printers, PC’s, pagers/telephones and Point of Care instruments.
- Within a client care setting, establishes work schedules and task projects to enhance efficiency and productivity.
- Inventories, stocks and orders products.
- Collects client group and insurance details for specimen processing when needed.
- Use of computer system systems for other tasks such as but not restricted to client registration or scheduling.
- Additional scientific treatments including however not restricted to EKG, holter screens, 24 hr. Blood pressure, essential signs, or pain management.
- Other tasks as designated.
TASK REQUIREMENTS
MINIMUM REQUIRED CREDENTIALS:
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED) is required.
- Valid Pennsylvania driver’s license, if performing off-site phlebotomy, is required.
PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS:
- 6 (6) months work in a healthcare setting.
- Typing capability of a minimum of 50 wpm.
- Experience in performing phlebotomy and/or point of care testing.
- Licensure as a Phlebotomy Professional, PBT (ASCP).
- CPR accreditation.
