I. Position Summary:

Under the direction of the supervisor, perform day-to-day phlebotomy activities of the laboratory properly and on time. Maintain a safe and professional environment. Performs with self-confidence, clinical specimen collection and processing tasks following recognized practices and treatments. Maintains needed records and documentation. Demonstrates organizational commitment and promotes a favorable image to patients, health care companies, and the public in basic.

II. Core Proficiencies:

  • Need to be versatile and readily available based on staffing requirements; weekends, vacations, on call and overtime.
  • Must have reliable transportation, valid motorist’s license, clean driving record, if suitable.
  • Excellent phlebotomy skills to include geriatric.
  • Demonstrates excellent company, interaction, and interpersonal skills, has the ability to manage concerns of patients in a professional manner.
  • Efficient in managing numerous top priorities in a high volume setting
  • Capability to perform data-entry.

III. Position Responsibilities: Basic expectations

  • Greet patient appropriately. Deal with all patient in a considerate manner.
  • Ensures all field specimens are collected precisely and on time.
  • Gathers specimens according to established treatments.
  • Accountable for finishing appropriations precisely.
  • Research test information making use of laboratory computer system or Directory of Service.
  • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
  • Plan specimens for transport.
  • Preserves needed records and paperwork.
  • Checks out, understands and abides by department policies, procedures and procedures: (i.e. Treatment Manuals, Security Manual, Compliance Handbook, etc).
  • Maintains all proper Phlebotomy logs.
  • Help with compilation of monthly statistics and data. Submits data on time regular monthly.
  • Perform fundamental clerical duties, i.e. filing, faxing, preparing mail. May be needed to perform electronic information entry.
  • Demonstrates organizational commitment.
  • Abides by departmental and business code of grooming and gown code and laboratory coat policies, appearing cool and tidy at all times.
  • Reports on time to work, following attendance guidelines.
  • Responses the telephone in a friendly and practical way, by incorporating the company name, self-identification and an useful statement
  • Interacts properly with patients, coworkers and the healthcare companies.
  • Interacts all unsolved issues right away to the appropriate Manager, Manager, for resolution. Remains courteous and considerate at all time.
  • Miscellaneous responsibilities and duties.
  • Keeps work area neat and clean. Disposes of biohazard containers when set up.
  • Assist with stocks and other jobs as appointed.
  • Stock supplies as required.
  • Carries out other department-related clerical tasks when designated.
  • Participates on teams and unique projects when asked.

IV. Certifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Medical terminology helpful.
  • Phlebotomy accreditation chosen.
  • 1 year Phlebotomy experience- geriatric capillary and venipuncture.
  • Keyboard/data entry application, if applicable.
  • Customer care in a service environment.
