ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Great history in customer-service-skills-focused positions, with an emphasis on exceptional attendance, strong work principles, team effort abilities.

Keyboarding ability of 30 wpm minimum.

Good vision, manual mastery, and physical ability to work well in a highly mobile environment, averaging 8 miles of strolling and carrying devices every day,

ORGANIZATION

Reports to the Lab Supervisor. May get instructions from PAS Supervisor, Medical Technologists or Elder Phlebotomists.

Has daily working contact with numerous other scientific workers and clients in various departments.

PARTICULAR DUTIES

  • Utilizes reliable client service/interpersonal abilities at all times.
  • Remains calm and efficiently follows appropriate procedure in stressful and/or emergent situations.
  • May need to represent extended periods of time throughout the day. May require to kneel beside or bend over supine patient to facilitate sample collection.
  • Activities are managed by defined procedures and predetermined schedules. Nevertheless, the priority or work need to be figured out by the individual on a continual basis. The performance of work is subject to continuous disruption and re-prioritization due to various emergent scenarios that frequently occur during the day.
  • Gathers blood from inpatients, outpatients, and assisted living home according to recognized treatments and policies. Consists of capillary leaks and venipuncture on babies and adults.
  • Collects throat swabs for microbiological screening.
  • Journeys to other organizations (e.g. assisted living home, off-site clinics) to collect blood/pick-up specimens and/or provide laboratory reports.
  • Keeps cool and keeps the specimen receiving locations, phlebotomy work-stations, outpatient drawing labs, ensures all supplies being used are not ended by regularly examining expiration dates and consistently inspecting all locations for expired products. Orders storage room items, anticipates other supply requirements. Informs laboratory inventory person of any supply requires.
  • Performs and tapes routine upkeep of point-of-care gadgets and temperatures of offsite lab environment.
  • Remains existing with all job-related interactions and subsequent assignments (e-mail, needed actions, etc.)
  • Helps in training of new laboratory staff members. Teaches venipuncture, capillary punctures, and arterial punctures, and other work processes to recently employed lab assistants, medical technologists, med tech trainees, nursing students, and lifesaver.
  • Carries out other responsibilities and obligations as appointed.
