What Is Pharmacy Technician Training?

Pharmacy technician training is a great idea for those who are looking to start a career as a pharmacy technician.  This training can help them get a number of benefits compared to those who do not get the training and help them be better prepared for that first job.  Here, we take a look at what exactly is this training and how you can go about getting it.

The coursework will key on providing you with a basic knowledge of some of the basic job duties that pharmacy techs must have knowledge of.  You can expect some general medical knowledge, knowledge of proper inventory control systems, pharmacology knowledge, etc.  You can also expect to get some training on how to deliver quality customer service in this setting in light of all the legal liability issues.  This coursework will also prepare you well to take and pass the certification exam.  This exam can be taken at the end of the training and is a multiple choice exam of which when you pass it, you will become a certified pharmacy technician.  This credential can help you get additional interviews and become a more attractive candidate to employers.

The training will usually run at least 3 months.  Some programs can run over a year but usually it is well under a year.  The variance in time is often due to many of the online programs being self-paced.  This means your progress is largely defined by how much you want to do at a certain time.

The cost of the training will be roughly $ 400 to $ 1,000.  Each program sets their own prices but many will offer payment plans and even financial assistance in some cases.
