A job which is growing in need and in popularity is that of the x-ray technician.  It is because x ray technician schools are high in demand that they are easy to find.  Many colleges teach people how to become an x-ray technician.  The time it takes to become an x-ray technician depends on if you wish to have a specialty at this or a bachelor’s.  Most people attend college or x ray technician schools for two years.  This will give them an associate’s degree.  If they were to attend for four years they would have a bachelor’s degree.  It is possible to go for one year to learn the basics.

Much of the schooling involved can be done online and at your home, but there is a certain amount of x-ray technology which must be taught in a classroom or at a facility that has the machines.  Hands-on training is important to an x-ray technician.

Besides the school for x-ray technology and learning the job, you will want to get certified.  Most hospitals and other facilities will not hire you unless there is a certificate in this field.  Once you are certified you will have to get recertified every two years.  In order to get a state license you will need to be certified in this important line of work.

This is a job that is becoming more necessary with the baby boomers reaching an age of mammograms and MRIs.  Since the baby boomers are just now reaching that age it is expected that the need for x ray technician schools and x-ray technicians to grow.  More and more schools are offering this type of schooling.

The pay that an x-ray technician receives is pretty good.  The average is around 50,000 dollars a year with the high for specialist fields hitting 90,000 dollars a year.  The best states that offer the best price for these techs are Hawaii, Nevada, and Maryland.

Some of the classes you can expect to take in x ray technician schools include such things as patient care, human anatomy, the physics of radiation and radiographic equipment and techniques.  These are the basics to this profession.  More classes will be needed if you want a bachelor’s degree or you decide to specialize in a particular field such as sonograms.
